What will happen to Landlords if Tenants cannot pay rent due to Coronavirus Issues

The government have issued that due to the Coronavirus lockdown, tenants affected through losing their jobs or who are left unable to pay the rent will not be prosecuted or face eviction proceedings for 3-months. Unfortunately, due to false news spread on Social Media platforms – this does not mean that tenants in receipt of housing benefit do not have to pay their rent – they still do. Tenant’s unable to work and affected by arrears can come to an arrangement at a later date to pay back what is owed.

As we get more information on financial help for tenants – we will update tenants with any relevant links with which they can apply for support including tax credits to feed families and health guidance information.

Landlords affected by the rent arrears can take a mortgage holiday on buy-to-lets if they need to.
